Its state capital of Linn County is Cedar Rapids, the sec town in Iowa, United States. Located 20 kilometers northwest of Iowa City approximately 100 miles (160 km) southeast of Des Moines, Iowa state’s capitol and largest city, the city is situated on both sides of the Cedar River. It is a portion of the Linn, Lincoln, Cedar, Iowa, Jasper, Johnson, event signage in Cedar Rapids, IA among Polk counties in the Pine Rapids/Iowa City region in eastern Iowa. One of the numerous regional groups promoting and protecting Cedar Rapids’s Czech history is indeed the Cedar River Czech Democratic Platform. Throughout the year, they contribute to and fund a wide range of initiatives. The contest for Miss Czech-Slovak Iowa is one of these initiatives. This neighborhood is home to Lisa Volesky & Stasia Krivanek, both of whom are Miss Czech-Slovak US royalty. The famous band leader of a Czech + Polka Band, a musical ensemble that frequently plays at the Kosek Band Stands in Czech Village, was Olga Drahozal. She co-taught Czech School (eská kola) at Wilson Junior High with Leona Poduka and Bessie Duggan.

Cedar Rapids was once known as Rapids City. The city, which was incorporated in 1849, started to see economic growth after T. M. Sinclair moved there in 1871 and started one of the biggest meat-packing businesses in the country. Soon after, other significant local businesses such as Cherry-Burrell as well as the Quaker Oats corporation emerged. Many of the city’s cultural and educational institutions, including Greene’s Opera House and indeed the Cedar Rapids Business School, were founded during this time.
